A Tranquil Oasis

Blue and Nicholay

Minimalist in its expression yet warm and inviting in atmosphere, this Oslo apartment reflects a couple who have thought of every detail without compromising on the feeling of home.

We visit Blue and Nicholay in their apartment in Oslo. The couple share a true passion for interior design, and together they have succeeded in creating a home that feels warm and welcoming. “For us, it’s all about harmony – a sense of calm, with a touch of minimalism that still feels warm and homely. Everything should have its place, creating a sense of peace rather than clutter. Above all, our home should make us feel safe and comfortable and reflect who we are. The interior plays a big part in creating that warm, welcoming feeling,” says Blue.

The same philosophy extends to the couple’s generous terrace, where earthy tones and greenery create a natural continuation of the interior. “We’re inspired by both Nordic design and Japandi. To us, the two styles go hand in hand. We love Danish design, and that’s reflected in our home,” Blue adds.

As you move around the house, you feel how present nature is everywhere. The large windows in the kitchen and living room can open up completely, so in summer the lines between inside and outside are blurred – it all feels like one big space. Therese and Simon’s daughter has a lot of fun bouncing on the huge net laid out next to the terrace. “The idea came about because the terraces are built on pillars, and a large space suddenly appeared between them. It ended up being one of our best ideas,” explains Therese.

Two light-coloured Playtower Outdoor sofas take centre stage on the terrace. Their generous proportions, soft lines and abundance of cushions create an inviting setting against the more muted palette. The pale upholstery is a considered choice, one the couple have returned to over the years to bring lightness to the terrace.

For Blue and Nicholay, the terrace is more than an outdoor space; it is an extension of their home, designed for the same sense of comfort and tranquillity. Their approach to decorating outdoors is deliberately understated, with small pots of flowers adding subtle touches of colour among the greenery, while earthy shades keep the overall expression calm and cohesive.

Surrounded by greenery and open skies, Playtower Outdoor is joined by the Bun Outdoor pouffe, creating an inviting setting for relaxed afternoons and long summer evenings. Blue loves making the terrace feel cosy, whether it’s a quiet moment spent outdoors with Nicholay and their little dog or a more sociable occasion with family and friends. He enjoys setting the table and welcoming guests, making the most of the terrace as an extension of their home. From sharing a drink on the sofa to firing up the barbecue and gathering for dinner outdoors, the space lends itself to both everyday moments and special occasions.
