Story
Hotel Frihavnen
In Nordhavn, you will find Hotel Frihavnen, an exclusive hotel with just 28 rooms and 4 suites. The hotel takes its name from the area’s history as a former customs-free harbour, with both its name – Frihavnen, meaning ‘Free Harbour’ – and its décor paying tribute to Nordhavn’s maritime heritage.
The design was created by interior designer Leif Thingved in collaboration with the architectural practice Entasis. Bespoke joinery and carefully selected materials shape the spaces, complemented by furniture from established Danish design brands such as Le Klint, Gubi, Kay Bojesen, Geismar and Eilersen.
Instead of a television, each room features a curated selection of books, created in collaboration with Copenhagen bookshop Thiemers Magasin. Guests are also welcome to enjoy the book selection in the upstairs lounge from the comfort of a Bure Plain sofa.
In summer 2026, four new suites opened – the ‘Eilersen Suites’. Here, guests can enjoy the Snooze sleeper sofa, Hippy sofa, Bench and Wheel footstools, Havana lounge chair and Spider coffee table.
On the rooftop terrace, guests can enjoy breakfast or a drink overlooking Nordhavn, with space for up to 150 guests. There is also an inviting outdoor lounge area in front of the hotel, where guests can enjoy the comfort of the Playtower Outdoor lounge sofa.
Those wishing to explore the area will find restaurants, cafés and the waterfront promenade of the former industrial harbour just a short walk away.
